R.I.P. J. Dilla

February 11, 2009

It’s been 3 years since James Yancey aka Jay Dee “Dilla” passed away from lupus. Dilla was and will forever be looked upon as the illest, most creative producer of our time. I remember when I first met Dilla outside of Maurice Malone’s shop in Detroit back in 94/95′ and again in 2000 when I got invited to the Slum Village – Raise It Up video shoot at Universal Studios in LA. We smoked one on the set and even though Dilla was getting his Hollywood on, you could just tell how genuine he was. His music plays a important part in my life as well as others worldwide. Wherever you are make sure you find a Dilla event to attend in your area this month and donate to MaDukes to assist with her lupus struggles and the unfinished business of the Dilla estate.

Fridays is My Day!

September 6, 2008

I could go on and on for days about what I think of the state of the music industry but that would probably be boring. What I can do is give you the lowdown on the shit I like and why its hot. The GZA (aka The Genius) is somebody that I have been listening to since he dropped his first joint “Words from The Genius” a couple years before Wu debuted they 1st LP. If you look up his history then you will know why his new joint “Pro Tools” is at the top of my list. GZA literally kills shit on this LP, so hit that link and learn about it! Next up is my mans, Elzhi, from my hometown (Detroit). Not really known to the world until he became apart of Slum Village, Elzhi, is one of the illest lyricists to touch the mic since Nasty Nas. El’s new joint “The Preface” is one of those instant classics. Check that shit out and Happy Friday! (support and don’t bootleg!!)
